March 8th, 2013 – Shemeca Riley Arrested on Four Counts of Attempted Murder

District Attorney Brandon Falls announced today that charges have been filed against one suspect that arose out of an incident while officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 4:30 p.m.

Shemeca Riley, a thirty-eight year old resident of Birmingham, Alabama has been charged with four counts of Attempted Murder as a result of the injuries she is alleged to have inflicted on four Law Enforcement Officers while wielding a box cutter.

District Attorney Falls commends all of the Birmingham Police Officers and the U.S. Marshalls for their hard work and quick thinking during the apprehension of this defendant. As a result of their actions this defendant was apprehended without any additional officers being injured. District Attorney Falls joins the Birmingham Police Department and the community in wishing these officers a speedy recovery. District Attorney Falls wants to assure the community that his office will not tolerate attacks on Law Enforcement Officers and anyone who attacks an officer will be aggressively prosecuted.

Riley is currently in custody and will be held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

A charge against a defendant is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
